Flying Training

Anita Pacanin's First Solo

Saturday 31 December 2005 at 9.00am in Citabria VH-WKM. Instructor: Neil Tucker

I happened to be in the right place at the right time with a new camera, so Anita's first solo is possibly the most photographed in history. She'd had bad luck with the weather on previous days so booked two hours early this morning. This has been an interesting 12 months for the lass, as she's also become a scuba diver. The solo was uneventful and Anita came through with flying colours, even when the tower came on board halfway round.

I was standing beside Neil Tucker, Anita's instructor, as he watched her solo, and he didn't seem in any way concerned. He said it's when students head off for their first cross-country that it's a worry; a bit like teenagers going out alone for the first time. Who are they with? What are they doing?
